Created by Mario Incisa della Roccheta, the first Super Tuscan wine ever made has not only entered Italy's Wine Pantheon but also achieved ‘cult’ status amongst collectors across the globe. Meaning “place of many stones”, Sassicaia was first commercially released in 1968 as an IGT before it earned its own DOC (Bolgheri Sassicaia) 22 years later, the only Italian wine to do so. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc sourced from vines lying on limestone soils rich in pebbles and marl at 80 to 400 metres above sea level. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. The wines was aged in French oak barriques, and a small part in American oak, for 25 months( 45% new).
